Shanti Bhavan

Shanti Bhavan works to equip children from villages, especially from marginalized families, with an education that supports their interests and builds a foundation for their future. By doing so, it aims to break the vicious cycle of oppression, kept in motion by illiteracy and lack of opportunity.

Dr. Abraham George is the Founder and Principal of Shanti Bhavan. As founder and main benefactor in the initial ten years, Dr.George and his vision for alleviating poverty and social injustice are reflected in Shanti Bhavan. In 1995, Dr. Abraham George returned to India, from the US, intending to make his contribution to reducing the injustices and inequalities he had observed from his travels throughout India, the media, and the published works he studied. As a result, he started The George Foundation (TGF), a non-profit organization based in Bangalore, India, dedicated to the welfare of economically and socially disadvantaged people. Through TGF, Shanti Bhavan was established.

Each year, Shanti Bhavan is forced to turn away hundreds of children because one school simply cannot take in all of them. With the help of donors, they will construct a second school that will change the lives of hundreds of new children.

Ankitara Foundation has donated to Shanti Bhavan’s cause to break the cycle of poverty.
